Our Policies

Welcome to Stone Soup!! We’re pleased you want to become part of our community. Our goal is to stock only the best kids and maternity clothing and accessories, and to sell them in a clean, comfortable and fun environment.

Just like you, we’re very picky -- that’s what makes our store so great! We carefully hand-select all of our inventory so everything is clean, stylish, and in great condition. You may click on each policy category, or just scroll down to read them all!


The Basics

  • Clothes need to be CLEAN and freshly laundered
  • Appointments only!
  • NO plastic bags
  • Button the buttons, snap the snaps, zip the zippers
  • Rack Ready clothes only
  • Gear must be SQEAKY clean!
  • No "mart" brands - Wal-mart, Target, Shopko etc

What We Are Buying Now

Items we are always accepting:
  • Pack N Plays
  • High Chairs - both the stand alone type and the kind that hook onto tables or chairs
  • Exersaucers
  • Bumbos
  • Strollers - all types
  • Quality Toys
  • Cloth Diapers and Covers
Items we are full on currently:
  • Boys and girls 0-12mo
Exceptions to the above are all sizes shoes and HIGH END brand name items - we will make every effort to always take these.

When We Buy

  • ESTABLISHED sellers: We schedule appointments Monday - Friday 9:15 am to 3:30pm and Saturday 11:00 am to 2:00pm
  • FIRST TIME sellers: Please call for an appointment. We request that new sellers bring in no more than 30 items so they can get acquainted with our policies and pricing.
OUT-OF-SEASON ITEMS: To provide the best selection for our customers, we want to keep our store stocked with in-season items. For this reason, you may bring in out-of-season items, but we will pay at a slightly reduced rate (to cover the extra cost of storing them until we can put them on the sales floor). So, if you would like to receive the full price of what we would pay, please bring items in during the following schedule:

  • Spring/Summer items: February through June
  • Autumn/Winter items: July through January (heavy winter coats and snowsuits September through January)

What We Buy

Due to our customers’ expectations, we’re VERY selective about what we can accept and must limit our selection to brands with proven quality and durability. Examples of clothing brands we accept are: Tea, Gap, Gymboree, Hanna Andersson, Baby Lulu, REI, Lands End, Catimini, Columbia, Ralph Lauren, Oilily, Janie & Jack, Green Dog, and Patagonia. Examples of brands we typically do not accept: Circo, Cherokee, Curfew, Sprockets, Faded Glory, George, and many other discount brands. We do not purchase any bedding. Please be understanding if we cannot purchase your items.

We purchase:
  • Children’s clothing, sizes infant to 12 (approx. 10 years old), all seasons.
  • Maternity/nursing clothing, all seasons. Must be brand name, current, trendy styles.
  • Very gently used wooden toys and puzzles, educational and activity-based toys and books. We do not accept stuffed animals.
  • Baby gear. Strollers, highchairs, pack-n-plays, electric swings, excersaucers, etc. Instructions and product information should be included. Please call us before bringing in larger items so you are sure we are accepting them at that time. We do not accept car seats or cribs, nor do we accept most items that are more than 3 years old. We will either buy baby gear outright or consign it depending on demand.

How to Get Your Items Ready to Sell

Clothing Must Be:
  • "RACK READY" -- this means freshly laundered (within one week of bringing it in) and odor-free.
  • Neatly laid out or folded in paper grocery bags or reusable boxes, with your name and phone number clearly printed on the bags and boxes. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING BROUGHT IN TRASH/PLASTIC BAGS. Clothing sets need to be presented together, but not pinned together. Zip the zippers, snap the snaps, button the buttons.
  • Completely free of lint or animal hair.
  • In excellent condition. Please do not bring anything in with stains, tears, missing buttons, broken zippers, or that is pilled and/or faded. These items will not be accepted.
Baby Gear and Toys Must Be:
  • SQUEAKY CLEAN, including hidden areas, corners and crevices. All cloth covered parts need to be laundered.
  • In proper working condition.
  • Up to current safety standards. We are very concerned about the safety of our littlest customers, and regularly receive updates from the Consumer Product Safety Commission pertaining to product recalls. To help us, we ask that you please check the safety of your toys and equipment at www.cpsc.gov before bringing them in.
  • Complete, with all necessary parts and pieces, instruction manuals, and any necessary batteries. If items are brought in without necessary batteries, we will need to install them and you will be paid slightly less than we would normally pay.
  • Fully assembled.

How To Drop Your Items Off

Due to the high volume of items we take in, we request that ALL sellers call to schedule an appointment. We must limit the number of items each seller can bring in per day. Please only bring in one (1) medium sized bin or box or two (2) paper bags of items. We’ll make every effort to process your items while you wait. If we can’t, or if you’re in a hurry, you can “Drop and Run.” (This privilege is for established sellers only) We’ll process your items as soon as possible, and we’ll call to let you know what we want to buy and how much we’re willing to pay.

Due to the number of items we process in a day, any items we don’t accept, or that you don’t want to sell for the price we’ve offered, need to be picked up within 24 hours or they become the exclusive property of Stone Soup. We apologize for being so strict about this policy, but we do not have the room to store unaccepted items. Thank you for your understanding!

Also, please go through your items one last time with our guidelines in mind before bringing them in, to make sure they’re items we accept and that they’re in the proper condition.

How You Get Paid

Unlike consignment, we buy your items outright -- that means you get cash in hand or store credit immediately. No waiting and wondering if your items are selling, no keeping track of when you need to come in and pick up those items that haven’t sold (and then having to decide what to do with them).

We pay an extra 35% more of the cash offer if you choose to receive store credit in lieu of a cash payment. Store credit can be used to purchase anything in our store, including sale and clearance items!

We accept and price items according to brand, condition, and currency of style. We typically purchase most items for 25% to 30% of our initial selling price. We also will consider consigning larger equipment items. We hope these guidelines answer all of your questions.
